Distribution of dementia disorders

Up to 200 medical conditions can be accompanied by dementia or cognitive impairment. Alzheimer's disease is by far the most common dementia disorder, but many other brain disorders may cause dementia.

Among the elderly (+65 years) with dementia, just over 60 % have Alzheimer's disease followed in frequency by mixed dementia, vascular dementia, dementia with Lewy bodies, Parkinson's disease dementia and frontotemporal dementia.

In 2021, approx. 9,300 people were examined in a memory clinic in the hospital sector. Of these, approx. two thirds were diagnosed with dementia.
