Dementia in Denmark

Using nationwide registry data, we conduct studies on the prevalence and incidence of dementia in Denmark. The studies have revealed that the incidence rate has declined steadily since 2003, while the total prevalence is still increasing.

Using registry data, we have also examined variations in diagnostic evaluation across e.g. age span, ethnicity and geography.

Studies based on the nationwide registries are conducted in collaboration with the National Centre for Register-based Research at Aarhus University.

Mortality and dementia

The research project uses Danish national health registry data to conduct several epidemiological studies that explore different aspects of mortality in dementia. For example risk factors, excess mortality and variations over time.

The studies are part of a Ph.D. programme (2016-2021) and is carried out in collaboration with the National Centre for Register-based Research at Aarhus University.

Infections and Dementia

The research project uses Danish national health registry data to conduct several epidemiological studies that explore the role of infections in dementia. The studies particularly focus on investigating whether infections are risk factors for developing dementia, and their impact on hospitalization in dementia as well as adverse hospital outcomes, namely hospital readmissions and mortality.

The research project was initiated in 2018 and is being carried out in collaboration with the National Centre for Register-based Research at Aarhus University and Department of Clinical Microbiology, Rigshospitalet.
