Dementia and medication
According to the Danish Health Data Authority, more than 34,000 people were treated with dementia medication in Denmark in 2025. The number of people treated is steadily increasing over the years.

The number of people treated with dementia medication has increased from approximately 11,050 people in 2004 to approximately 34,920 in 2025.
Nearly two-thirds of patients are treated with a cholinesterase inhibitor (ATC code N06DA), and almost one-third are treated with memantine (N06DX). In addition, there is a small group of patients who within a given year either switch from cholinesterase inhibitors to memantine or patients being treated with both types of medication at the same time (combination therapy).
