Patrick Ejlerskov

PhD, Senior researcher, MSc

Specialist in functional assays involving autophagy and neuroinflammation. His project focuses on new molecular pathways causing or contributing to the pathology of frontotemporal dementia and other dementias, with special emphasis on autophagy and neuroinflammation. Autophagy is a cellular degradation system, which degrades damaged cell components and cellular waste products including dementia-causing protein aggregates. In his research he uses induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) derived from skin biopsies from patients with dementia. The iPSCs are differentiated into neuronal cultures, 3D brain organoids, and resident brain immune cells microglia, which constitute unique model systems for these devastating diseases.
