Senior researchers
Patrick Ejlerskov
Specialist in functional assays involving autophagy and neuroinflammation. His project focuses on new molecular pathways causing or contributing to the pathology of frontotemporal dementia and other dementias, with special emphasis on autophagy and neuroinflammation. Autophagy is a cellular degradation system, which degrades damaged cell components and cellular waste products including dementia-causing protein aggregates. In his research he uses induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) derived from skin biopsies from patients with dementia. The iPSCs are differentiated into neuronal cultures, 3D brain organoids, and resident brain immune cells microglia, which constitute unique model systems for these devastating diseases.
Kristian Steen Frederiksen
Serves as clinical trials director and national coordinator and PI for drug trials in AD. Main research areas include the effect of physical exercise, prodromal Lewy Body Dementia, and biomarkers in neurodegenerative dementias, with a special focus on brain imaging techniques.
Lena Hjermind
Serves as national coordinator and PI for drug trials in HD. Main research interest is genotype-phenotype correlations and molecular mechanisms in inherited movement disorders and neurodegenerative disorders.
Kasper Jørgensen
Main research focus is norming, validation and development of neuropsychological tests and brief, case-finding instruments for dementia and mild cognitive impairment.
Peter Roos
Main research focuses on clinically affected and presymptomatic CHM P2B gene mutation carriers from the Danish FTD-3 family.
Anja Hviid Simonsen
Main research focus is molecular and genetic biomarkers for diagnosis and prognosis of neurodegenerative diseases as well as for response to interventions.
